Membership

Kierland is open to the public / resort‐playing public. While it’s part of the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa and operates like a high-end resort facility, it does not require private membership for play.

Views

The course offers striking desert mountain vistas, especially of the McDowell Mountains. Fairways are flanked by golden desert grasses, desert trees, desert washes, and carefully placed water features. The combination of sweeping elevation changes, natural desert landscape and the contrast of lush fairways makes for impressive scenery almost every hole.

Course Difficulty

From the back (white / Cinder) tees, Kierland is a challenging layout: the ~7,017 yards and slope ~127 require long tee shots, accuracy, and good course management. While forward tees make it more forgiving, hazards such as bunkers (many high-lipped), uneven fairway terrain, elevation shifts, and few water features in key strategic places push the difficulty on closing holes. Players of average skill will find it demanding but generally fair.

Price

$$$$

Kierland is not cheap. As a resort facility with top amenities, excellent conditioning and location, the green fees tend to be premium relative to more basic courses, though still below the cost of ultra-luxury private clubs.

Final Verdict

Kierland Golf Club is an excellent value for golfers who want a premium resort-style golf experience without needing private membership. It delivers on scenic beauty, variety (27 holes via three distinct nines), conditioning, and challenge. If you’re willing to pay a bit more, it offers strong bang for the buck: beautiful course, strong amenities, and standout views make it well worth playing in Scottsdale.
