Membership
Grayhawk is open to the public — it’s a daily-fee club. You don’t need a private membership to play either the Talon or Raptor courses.
Views
Both courses offer excellent desert scenery. You’ll see sweeping vistas of the McDowell Mountains, natural arroyos, desert washes, native vegetation, shaded washes, and rolling hills. The landscaping integrates well with the terrain, making for visually appealing holes from tee to green.
Course Difficulty
-
Talon is demanding, with slope ~146 and rating ~73.3. The length (nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees), forced carries, elevation changes, and hazard placements make it a tough test even for low handicappers. Misses are likely to be punished.
-
Raptor is a bit more severe: longer (~7,221 yards), slope ~140, rating ~74.2. It pushes you in terms of length, precision, and endurance. Big drives help, but the strategy and scrambling will matter.
Overall, this is not forgiving golf, especially from the back tees — you need good shot-making, patience, and a solid short game.

Final Verdict
Grayhawk is a standout choice if you want high-end public golf in Scottsdale: beautiful desert vistas, championship-level difficulty, excellent conditioning, and well-designed layouts. For golfers willing to pay the premium, the Talon and Raptor deliver memorable rounds. If you’re more of a mid-handicap or want something less demanding, playing from forward tees still gives you a great experience without being beaten up.
